Whether a death occurs at home, in hospital or in a public place, the first person who should be contacted is generally the person’s doctor. If the doctor indicates he/she is able to complete a death certificate then the funeral director can be contacted to arrange transport of the deceased.
If the doctor is unable or unwilling to complete the death certificate then the death must be reported to the Coroner. The Coroner will investigate the cause of death, usually in conjunction with the police. An autopsy is normally performed.
The Funeral Director will liaise with the family to discuss funeral options. Funeral Directors are there to help and can assist you at any hour of the day or night.
Should you call a member of the Australian Funeral Directors Association you can be assured of professional, caring and understanding service.
Your funeral director can guide you through the many options for the funeral service.
Funeral directors help the family plan the funeral service, and then take responsibility for co-ordination.
